AP Reading List Choice/ Reason

I chose to read Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. This book has been called a "African American feminist classic" and catches my attention. I am interested in reading a book about the struggles of how racism has affected the life of a young African American woman. This book deals with the main character Jaine who faces discrimination and is talked about behind her back by the town when she returns.
